2013 Defender of Distinction & Prosecutor of the Year Awards

The Defender of Distinction Award, presented by the Missouri State Public Defender Commission, is bestowed annually upon a public defender who exemplifies the ideal of public defense. William (Bill) Swift was recognized with the award. He has spent more than 23 years as an Assistant Public Defender for the Missouri State Public Defender in Columbia.

The Prosecutor of the Year Award is presented by the Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys to recognize outstanding achievement in the profession of prosecution. These achievements may be in the areas of decision-making, integrity, courtroom advocacy, or policy. Michael S. Wright was recognized with the award. He is the elected prosecuting attorney for Warren County, a rural community of 32,000 residents located 45 minutes west of St. Louis.

Both awards were presented at The Missouri Bar Foundation & Public Service Awards Luncheon at the 132nd Annual Meeting of The Missouri Bar held on Sept. 18, 2013 in Columbia, MO. In these interviews, both discuss their public service, what receiving the award means to them and advice to others.
